Located in eastern Howard County, Elkridge is located at the confluence of three counties, Howard, Baltimore, and Anne Arundel. It is bordered on the north be Catonsville, on the east by Linthicum and BWI Airport, on the south by Dorsey, and on the west by various small communities between it and Columbia.


Located along the Patapsco River, it was founded in 1733 when the Maryland General Assembly elected to establish a 30-acre town where planters could bring their tobacco crop to be loaded onto British trading ships. Elkridge has a deep history of pig-iron forging, basket weaving, paper, and cotton, as well as employment from the B&O Railroad.
